Why Should You Use Blogging In A Classroom?

There are several educational advantages of blogging. First, it helps to build a sense of community for you and your students. Second, it allows all students to be in engaged in the learning process. Including some who may not usually participate. Third, the students and the teacher must communicate in writing and read the postings of others. That is always a good tool for any level or age of learner. Fourth, it promotes creativity and the use of technology. Finally, it connects students to information and knowledge they may not normally be exposed to by just learning from a textbook or the teacher. It becomes a "global experience."

More Blogging

I am considering the best usage of blogging for my 2nd graders. I have spoken to my principal and she is in favor of using this tool in the classroom. Her only concern is internet safety. I have promised her that I will not use students' names and pictures. The students will not be able to post anything without my permission first (they don't have the password). I'm excited to put their hard work on display on a "global" scale.

Blogging

I really have enjoyed blogging, adding photos, and being connected to the "global community." I like it when people post comments to my blog. It makes me feel like my words have meaning to other people.

Steelers Back in the Superbowl!

Looking for Ring #6! Well, if the old adage "the best offense is a good defense" holds true then the Steelers should win Superbowl XLIII without too many problems. Much will be made out of Arizona's Cinderella run, much like the Steelers did in the post-season of 2004-2005 when they went on to win Superbowl XL. Also, the whole thing about the Arizona coaches all being former Steelers coaches will give sportscasters a lot banter about. In the end, I say close first half, but then the Steelers pull away with a big victory!

New Mexico Spaceport

Well it's official! Spaceport:America is destined to become a reality. After years of planning and revenue seeking, the spaceport has cleared all hurdles and is scheduled to begin construction in early 2009.

Here's hoping that all those involved make sure that the project is done right. Millions of dollars, not to mention jobs, a local economic boost, and the space dreams of many, are all hanging in the balance. The spaceport has had many naysayers, especially those who have to pay more taxes for its construction and operation. With the backing of Virgin Galactic, the State of New Mexico, and many in the space industry, Spaceport: America could and should be one of the best things to happen to Southern New Mexico in a long, long time.

First Official Blog

Here's goes nothing...

I'll be blogging on various subjects on this site. I have a variety of interests that range from education (I'm a teacher), to sports (go Steelers!), to politics (Jury still out on Obama, but it should be it should be interesting), to space and science (New Mexico Spaceport Coming Soon!), to just about any other topic of interest.

Hope to hear from others about my posts.
